    2:30 pm  Ken Meter - Local Food Systems- Ken Meter, president of Crossroads Resource Center in Minneapolis, holds 35 years experience in community capacity building as an administrator, researcher, journalist, and educator.  As an expert on regional food economies, Ken helps communities and states achieve the goals of supporting a strong, thriving and sustainable agricultural economy that also feeds their entire population. Meter inspires people to move from being passive recipients of the food system to active participants working toward positive change.

    4:00 pm    Dr. Jill Clapperton  - Managing the Soil as a Habitat - Dr. Clapperton was the Rhizosphere Ecologist at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Lethbridge Research Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada for 15 years. In November 2006, she moved onto the Maclay family ranch near Carlton in western Montana. During her time in Lethbridge, Jill lead the Rhizosphere Ecology Research Group studying plant-disease-soil nematode interactions, crop variety-nutrient uptake-rhizosphere community interactions, and soil organic matter quality influences on the diversity and population dynamics of soil fauna.  Currently, she is working part-time at her consulting business (Earthspirit Land Resource Consulting), lecturing, and stressing over crop rotations and a cropping/grazing plan for 2008 and onwards.
