Southwest Regional Gathering to Showcase Latest Developments in Holistic Land Management

Annual Event to Take Place in San Antonio, Texas

Albuquerque, NM – April 7, 2011 – The annual Southwest Regional Gathering, hosted by Holistic Management International (HMI), will be held May 6-7, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas.  The event will bring together Holistic Management™ practitioners, local food enthusiasts, sustainable agriculture and livestock producers, farmers, and others to learn about the latest techniques in land management, livestock maintenance, and sustainable agriculture.

Dr. William Winter, a doctor of veterinary medicine, will be the keynote speaker at the Southwest Regional Gathering.  Dr. Winter grew up on a family farm in Western Kansas and got his veterinary degree from Kansas State University.  In 1980 he created what became one of the largest holistic veterinary practices in the United States.  He is a co-founder of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, and has served as the veterinary adviser to the International Alliance of Sustainable Agriculture since 1984.   In addition, Dr. Winter recently founded the American Holistic Livestock Association.

“We are thrilled to offer this opportunity for anyone interested in sustainable ranching and farming practices to get an understanding of Holistic Management and its positive financial and environmental impact on both land and livestock,” said Peter Holter, chief executive officer for Holistic Management International.  “Dr. Winter brings a unique and experienced point of view, from his four decades of holistic veterinary practices. We are particularly excited about having both Dr. William Winter and Ian Mitchell-Innes as presenters. With deep roots in Texas, HMI’s mission of educating people to manage land for a sustainable future promises to be further strengthened at this gathering, which will be a great place for Texas ranchers and farmers to network, trade ideas, see old friends, and make new ones.”

As Holistic Management International, an Albuquerque-based non-profit organization created to improve the health, productivity, and profitability of land is hosting the event, it starts on the evening of Friday, May 6 with a networking event, including dinner and keynote address.  On Saturday, May 7 guests will attend a workshop with Certified Educator Ian Mitchell-Innes to learn about innovations in livestock grazing management, suitable for both large and small landscapes.

The Southwest Regional Gathering will be held at the Doubletree Airport Hotel located at 37 Northeast Loop 410 in San Antonio Texas.  Registration cost $150 per person. For more information on how to register for HMI’s Southwest Regional Gathering, please see the HMI training page.
