Lee Altier explores and promotes management that maintains the integrity of human and ecological relationships in support of healthy, vibrant food systems. He is a horticulture professor in the College of Agriculture at California State University. He is the founding director of the Chico State Organic Vegetable Project and Aquaponics Unit and past director of Cultivating Community North Valley, a USDA-funded program to enhance regional food security. His teaching has comprised courses in sustainable vegetable crop production, horticultural therapy, agricultural ecology, world food production, and holistic management. When he is not in a classroom or farm field, Lee is often riding his bike in the Sierra foothills or backcountry skiing on Mt. Lassen.
