Allyson fell in love with farming while studying at UMass Amherst – where she went on to get a degree in Agriculture Education. She has 12 years of experience raising animals, vegetables, and small fruit for market.
Allyson purchased Full Heart Farm in the spring of 2012 at the age of 24, and has been living the dream ever since.
Allyson has spoken at many conferences and events, including the Young Farmers Conference. She serves as a mentor for Holistic Management International’s Beginning Women Farmers Program and is a member of the National Young Farmers Coalition. Allyson was named one of CT Magazine’s 40 under 40 for 2015, as well as eWomen Network’s Emerging Leader of the Year for 2015. She loves to learn and to teach and fills her evenings and winters contracting for UConn and Cornell Extension.
Few things excite Allyson as much as working on the farm, but she also enjoys canning, cooking, and renovating their farmhouse, as well as spending time with the littlest farmers.
Phil Metzger, Holistic Management Professional Certified Educator
Phil Metzger is a natural resources development consultant having recently retired from a 32-year career as a resource conservationist for the USDA – Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). He has extensive experience working with an array of public, private and non-profit partners in natural resources conservation and rural economic development. He instructs on various topics including: farm/personal/business/organization goal setting, customer service, resource delineation, improved decision making, financial/business/land/grazing planning, biological monitoring, and reading the land. He is a Certified Educator in Holistic Management, currently serving as an instructor for the Getting Started Online Holistic Financial Planning Course.
Jiff Martin, Associate Extension Educator in Sustainable Food Systems for the UConn College of Agriculture, Health & Natural Resources
Jiff Martin is an active program manager of several outreach initiatives. Jiff currently leads a team of professionals that assist new farmers in sustainable production and farmland management through the Solid Ground Program. She collaborates with CT Dept. of Education on expanding farm to school activities through the Put Local On Your Tray Program. She is credited with launching two AmeriCorps service learning programs (FoodCorps CT & Connecticut Food Justice VISTA Project). She is proud to represent CT on the Network Team of Food Solutions New England (FSNE). Jiff is eager to connect emerging leaders in food and farming systems, and looks for efficient solutions to challenges faced by food growers and food entrepreneurs. Prior to joining UConn Extension, she was the State Director for American Farmland Trust and the Food Policy Director at Hartford Food System.
Sarah Kubik, County Executive Director USDA Farm Service Agency
Sarah Kubik is the County Executive Director of the New London County Farm Service Agency (FSA). Since 2014 Sarah has worked to connect farmers to FSA programs, with an emphasis on new and beginning farmers. FSA has a locally elected County Committee system and works to provide farm ownership and operating loans, low interest funding for farm storage facility loans, and provides safety net programs like the Non-Insured Disaster Assistance Program (NAP); enacted through national Farm Bills to help the farm economy.

About the Farm:
Full Heart Farm was started in the spring of 2012 using the principles of Holistic Financial Planning and Holistic Land Management. The overgrown, previously un-farmed parcel was converted into productive crop land by rotating pigs (to clear overgrown areas and rocks) and chickens (to build fertility). Each season the farm has evolved to fit the needs of the farm family, as well as the changing market for local foods. The farm currently raises specialty vegetables and cut flowers on about an acre of crop land for a 100 person CSA and a handful of wholesale accounts.
