Biodiversity is Key at Ravens Creek Farm in Moraic, Victoria

Hayden and J

asmin Findlay were looking for ways to make Ravens Creek, their family farm, located in Moriac, in Victoria, Australia, a financially viable, biodiverse farming business. Their 36 hectare farm is leased from Hayden's parents.  Through extensive research, a lot of trial and error, and some lessons learned, Ravens Creek is now a productive, biodiverse farm, where customers can sample free-range pork, grass-fed beef and lamb at the small shop and cafe.

In order to initially entice people to visit their farm, the Findlays planted berries. After picking the berries, visitors stayed around for a coffee, and the business evolved from there.

Using Holistic Management principles, learned from listening to Allan Savory and Joel Salatin, along with other Holistic Management practitioners such as Greg Judy and Gabe Brown, the Findlays built up the farm's soil, and improved their pasture by adding cover crops, and rotating crops. Today, their ultimate goal is to continue to refine their farming operation, all without depleting soil and natural resources.
