Farmer George Credits Holistic Management® for Their Success

Grass-for-web-square

Using Holistic Management on his farm has paid off for George Hamilton - owner of Farmer George. a boutique paddock-to-plate lamb business located near Medgee in central west New South Wales. George, along with his wife Tracy and adult children Madie, Angie, and Pat all help out on the 248 hectare farm, which runs 580 ewes.

Farmer George was created after George began receiving complaints from his friends in Sydney about the lack of fresh lamb in the city. He started slow, delivering fresh lamb into the city once a month, and later began selling at a local farmers market. Today, Farmer George sells their fresh lamb online as well.

George credits his success to the practice of Holistic Management, which he has been practicing since 2000, after taking a class.  “Holistic management has changed my attitude and way of thinking,” George said. "I have few inputs and plenty of grass. If I was a doctor and doing things like they did in the ‘50s, ‘60s or ‘70s, I’d be locked up, so why are farmers still using the same practices?”
