Green Fields Farm High Production in Drought

Green Fields Farm near Rogers, Texas has been practicing Holistic Management and other regenerative agriculture practices since 2012 and the result has been greater drought resilience. When the ambient temperature is 103 degrees F, their covered soil with green, deeply rooted plants reads 88 while their neighbors plowed field reads 155 degrees F.

In June 2022, HMI's Executive Director Wayne Knight came for a visit to Green Fields Farm after they had received only four inches of rain. The yearly rainfall average is 35 inches with most of that falling in the spring and fall. Despite these low rainfalls, Green Fields Farm was able to grow a lot of forage compared to their neighbors who are conventionally grazing. The fenceline contrast in this video shows how good grazing management results in increased land productivity even in drought conditions.
