HMI Certified Educator Blain Hjertaas on Cows and Carbon

Recently, the Canadian Organic Grower Magazine featured an article on Blain Hjertaas of Saskatchewan. Blain explains how he changed tactics from hi-tech farming to back-to-basics soil biology. Leaving behind herbicides and implementing Holistic Management grazing techniques instead, Blain found himself with increased carbon sequestration, healthier soil and "more grass on our farm than we can use". He talks about how difficult it can be, making that paradigm shift, when it comes to taking risks and trying new techniques that affect your livelihood. But Holistic Management keeps proving over and over again that it works! And if more farmers and ranchers take the steps in regenerative practices like Holistic Management, they will find their finances, their animals and their land in position to thrive. You can read the entire article by Amy Kremen here.
