HMI was excited to learn that Holistic Management practitioner, Joel Salatin, has been named Editor of The Stockman Grass Farmer. Joel has been a long time contributor for The Stockman as well as teaching courses with Allan Nation, the previous editor and founder who passed away this year.
Joel co-owns, with his family, Polyface Farms in Swoope, Virginia. Featured in the New York Times bestseller Omnivore's Dilemma and award-winning documentary Food Inc., the farm serves more than 5,000 families, 50 restaurants, 10 retail outlets and a farmers' market with salad bar beef, pigaerator pork, pastured poultry, and forestry products, all managed holistically.
HMI is particularly excited about Joel taking the editorial reins of The Stockman as he has spoken and written extensively on innovative regenerative agricultural practices that build biologically active soil. The results he has achieved with Holistic Management and his willingness to share that information with others led HMI to award him our "Excellence in Holistic Management" award.
And, if you haven't seen the documentary about Polyface Farm and their practice of Holistic Management, I encourage you to watch it. It's inspiring and educational. If you would like to do your part in developing a resilient food system based on regenerative agriculture, host a film screening. HMI will help you create an event that your friends and neighbors will remember.
