Furthering its commitment to transparency and sustainability in the supply chain, ISA TanTec announces its LITE (Low Impact To the Environment) Sourcing concept. While meeting LWG criteria for purchasing of raw materials, the group has now developed an even more stringent sourcing protocol under the framework of LITE. Focusing on the sustainable use of natural resources, accountability in the supply chain, and the fair and ethical treatment of animals, the LITE Sourcing concept covers the purchases of cattlehides, as well as chemicals, packaging, and other materials and assets. In all fields, the group continuously targets measurable improvements which it will also communicate on a regular basis.
Focused on cattlehide purchases within the LITE Sourcing concept, the group has developed their own sourcing protocol under the name of “Greener Pastures”. The protocol has been specifically developed for cattlehides that must meet a number of requirements. All hides in the program are traceable to the farm or ranch by lot with full transparency and documentation and must meet specific animal welfare program requirements including Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) and Beef Quality Assurance Transportation (BQAT). Animal welfare at time of harvesting is verified by 3rd party independent auditors based upon USDA Humane Handling program protocols. Animals under the program are fed a 100% vegetarian diet without animal by-products and raised with no added hormones or antibiotics. The “Greener Pastures” program features leathers for both footwear and luxury markets.
In general, the LITE Sourcing program allows customers to ensure their leather sourcing adheres to a high standard of animal welfare, ethical and environmentally sustainable practices. ISA TanTec has always been dedicated to minimizing the environmental footprint in the entire supply chain.
