Napa Valley Goes Green(er)

Holistic Management isn’t just for farms and ranches. The Napa Green program is a certification program that was created for vineyards and wineries in the Napa Valley.  Focusing on Holistic Management processes, Napa Green has integrated Holistic Management practices in the environmental certification program.  Certification is completed by an independent third party and involves both the farms and the winemaking facilities. Even more exciting, the Napa Valley Vintners recently announced that 50 percent of their eligible members are now participating in the program. Established in 1944, Napa Valley Vintners currently has more than 525 members with a goal of producing the highest quality wines while also practicing responsible environmental leadership by protecting soils, reducing harmful inputs, and helping to restore natural habitats.  The group also strives to integrate environmental, social and economic sustainability into their operations. Napa Green’s current goal is to have all eligible members participating in the program by 2020.  With 50 percent participating only two years after their announcement, it looks likely that they will reach their goal.
