If you are looking for some interesting reading, here are two new books written by members of the HMI Community.
The first book, Dawn Again: Tracking the Wisdom of the Wild, the memoirs of tracker and grassfed beef producer Doniga Markegard, is due out November 1st.
In this memoir, Doniga shares her journey including the wilderness immersion school where Indigenous elders and wildlife trackers were among her teachers, hitchhiking across the Pacific Northwest, how she learned to track, and her time in Alaska where she fell in love with tracking white wolves and the rigor of wilderness survival.
includes not only tracking but chapters on food, Permaculture, and Holistic Management, as well as the love story that begins with Doniga tracking mountain lions and meeting Erik, a rancher, she eventually marries and together they raise a family on a California cattle ranch. is a novel by Julie Finigan Morris. Julie and Joe, her husband, run Morris Grassfed Beef near Hollister, California.
follows the E.coli outbreak in 2008 that forces the nation’s largest organic salad company to recall millions of products. From that tragedy, three women’s lives converge. Stella Gonzalez, a wash- line employee, is determined to provide a better future for her daughter. Ruth Malmquist is left fighting for her son’s life and Jane Janhusen is asked to salvage the reputation of her boss and the company she loves.
It's not often that a novel addresses the issues of the farm-to-table movement and the challenges of corporate agriculture, and this books makes you really consider how sustainable our food system is.
You can order Julie's book online at Barnes & Nobles or Author House or Amazon.
