Season of the Pumpkin

I’ll admit it…I love pumpkins!  In fact, the first thing I ever grew was pumpkins; which turned out great, by the way. Everywhere you go, pumpkins are the star during the month of October.  In fact, 80% of the annual pumpkin crop in the U.S. is available in October, helping to flavor our pumpkin lattes, pumpkin scones, pumpkin cookies, and of course, pumpkin pies.  We definitely love our pumpkins! But how much do you really know about pumpkins?  Take our true or false quiz and find out!

  • The typical pumpkin has approximately 250 seeds.

  • Pumpkins are grown only in the U.S.

  • Pumpkins are considered a vegetable

  • The first pumpkins were grown in North America

  • The world’s largest pumpkin weighed 2,323 pounds

  • Pilgrims enjoyed pumpkin pie at the first Thanksgiving feast

  • Pumpkins are gluten free

  • Pumpkins are 50% water

  • Every part of a pumpkin is edible

  • Pumpkin pie is America’s favorite pie

  9. True.  The skin, the leaves, pulp, seeds, and even the stem is edible.

  10. False. According to the American Pie Council, Apple Pie is the pie of choice for most Americans, followed by Pumpkin Pie.
