When we thin
k of agriculture, we typically think of vast open spaces and acres and acres of farm or ranch land. Sure, there are rooftop gardens, and the occasional urban farm, but do these small spaces really make an impact in the agricultural sector? It turns out that they may have more impact than anyone thought possible. According to researchers at Arizona State University and Google, urban agriculture has the potential to produce millions of tons of food production, while working to sequester carbon. Urban agriculture also provides easier access to healthy foods, something typically lacking in many urban areas where produce in being grown. Urban agriculture also helps to control water runoff, while conserving energy. To read more about the study, and potential impact, visit Arizona State University's website. Does your community have urban or rooftop gardens? If so, we’d love to see some photos.
