Holistic Biological Monitoring

“What I liked most about this course was the hands on monitoring. All the techniques I learned at the university were far too complicated to do as a routine and on several locations. As a contrast, the Holistic Management Biological Monitoring methods are simple and fast and teach you to read the land. The second most useful thing has been the realization, that organic crop fields are really perennial grasslands! The “weeds” are actually a perennial layer of ground cover, and it is the task of the farmer to manipulate disturbance in order to get a perennial grassland species mix which is good for growing crops as well (e.g. white clover instead of sow thistle).” – Tuomas Mattila, Finland
