More health-conscious consumers are aware of the importance of pastured poultry for a more nutrient-dense product. However, those chickens must be grazed in such a way that they are not only getting good nutrition, fresh air, sunshine, and the opportunity to express their instinctive nature. The grazing planning management must also include moving the containment (fencing) for the chickens that not only protect them but also act as a tool to concentrate the animal impact of their scratching and fertilization of their pasture. Likewise, the grazier must plan for adequate recovery of the plants that have been grazed and trampled so that the perennial forage can grow strong roots that will sequester more carbon and feed more soil microbes.
